Frequently asked Questions

We always try to update the Frequently asked Questions (FAQ) with new information’s so you can have all the necessary information’s before starting your charter vacation.

General questions

The choice of the vessel depends entirely on your wishes and preferences. Our offer includes the following vessel types:

  • Sailing boats – excellent for both family and active vacation
  • Catamarans – very stable and comfortable, ensure fast sailing
  • Gulets – use the power of engine and sails to move; rented exclusively with the crew (captain, sailor, cook, hostess)
  • Motor boats – for speed sailing enthusiasts
  • Luxury mega yachts – Fully crewed luxury yacht that can go international

Before choosing a vessel, please bear in mind the following details:

  • How many people will be on board?
  • Does your group consist of pairs who can share the same cabin or do some crew members require a separate cabin?
  • Do you prefer comfort?
  • Do you require a skipper or not? If you need skipper's services, please bear in mind that the skipper sleeps on board as well, so one of the berths (either in the saloon area or in a cabin) should be reserved for him.

The choice depends on your wishes and preferences. A Catamaran is an excellent choice for those with no sailing experience or for those who feel somewhat insecure sailing. It has two hulls, hence providing greater stability. Catamarans don't lean more than 5° and offer greater comfort, spacious saloon area and cabins and somewhat faster sailing, since they have two engines. Modern catamarans have shallow draft in order to make the access to land and bays easier.

You can consult our Contact Center about the vessel choice – they will prepare an offer for you, based upon your request. Should you prefer to choose a vessel on your own, you can do so by using our Online Database system.

After having chosen a vessel, we can reserve it for you for several days, with no obligation, giving you time to organize your travel plans (buying plane tickets, etc.) and arrange everything with your crew members.

The vessel is considered booked by you as soon as you pay the first installment, i.e. 30, 40 or 50% of the total price, or the whole charter fee for bookings within 60 days before the departure. You can either pay by credit card or by bank transfer.

Sailing yacht, catamarans, gulets and motor boats charters usually begin and starts and ends Saturdays.

However, should you desire to take a several days long sailing trip in the off season ( October – April ), this can be organized and the price is then calculated according to the number of days spent on board.

During the high-season (in June, July and August, as well as the beginning of September and the end of May), we cannot deviate from our weekly charter system (Saturday – Saturday charter), since these are the busiest months for the charter companies and most weeks are sold out well in advance (therefore, the price is unlikely to be flexible and you would usually be charged for a full week of charter).

If you have enough electricity, water and food, you can spend the night in one of the numerous, well secluded bays along the Adriatic coast. If using the services of a skipper, you won't have any problems finding the securest bays, since the skippers are well acquainted with the Adriatic region.

If navigating a vessel on your own, please feel free to contact us for help – we'll gladly give you our suggestions about the safe bays in the maritime zone where you go sailing. You could also ask the personnel of the charter agency for some suggestions during your check-in procedure in the marina.

Please note that all the services in Croatia and Greece are in Euros. Sometimes it is possible to pay the mooring fees in Euros, but it depends upon the marina and should be checked upon in advance.

In restaurants, shops and supermarkets you can use credit cards as well.

If sailing in territorial waters of Slovenia, Italy, Montenegro, Greece or France the additional costs are paid either in Euros or with credit cards.

If having reserved a vessel through our website, please check the additional information on vessel equipment for every single boat in our offer. Should you need any further assistance, just contact us and we'll send you a document quoting all the equipment on your chosen boat.

All boats in our offer have safety and navigation equipment as well as navigation maps.

Bed linen (sheets, blankets, pillows) is provided on every vessel. Only few charter agencies provide towels as well, so by all means take your own with you (both beach towels as well as those for personal hygiene).

Kitchen is equipped with stove, oven, fridge, sink, cooking utensils and cutlery.

Cleaning agents, dish cloths, etc. are not provided on board, but can be bought in stores in the marinas before boarding.

If you don't know which places to visit, please check some of our suggested routes and info on departure points of the vessels in our offer. We can also provide you with additional information about cultural sights, beaches, etc.

We will also send you our suggested tailor made itinerary on your request.

Children can go sailing with you from an early age – there is no age limit, however, their stay on board should be closely monitored by adults. Be sure to choose the safest cabin for a child (e.g. the front cabin) and a place for him/her to play (cockpit is a relatively safe place). You can also put a safety net along the sides of the boat and children should by all means wear life vests.

You should bring baby food along, since it cannot be bought in every supermarket within the marina. You should also consider choosing shorter routes and visiting marinas more frequently in order to provide safer berthing as well as comfort.

Unfortunately we don't offer any cabin charter service. We only offer full yacht charter.

Changes of the crew are possible – however, this should be indicated in advance, before embarkation, so as to make crew lists, on which the dates of changes as well information on people joining or leaving the crew will be specified. Our guests receive a blank crew list, which they fill in with the crew details both before and after the change (the date of the change should be indicated as well). The complete crew list can be sent to us via email or fax.

Before taking over the vessel, the charter agency will provide the guests with a verified crew list with data both before and after the change, which the guests need to have during the sailing trip.

If the crew suddenly changes during the cruise, without previous notice, the guests are obliged to contact the charter agency and inform them about the change in order for them to send the new verified crew list. The new list can then be sent via fax to the guests (to any place where they are at that moment).

In case of a control, the guests need to present the new crew list, although they are obliged to keep the old one as well.

We have partnered with WIENER INSURANCE GROUP to additionally insured all your payments send to us with Wire transfer and also credit card payments.

If the Client wants to change the charter terms or cancel the reservation, this must be done in writing (via e-mail, fax, or post.)
If the Client cancels the reservation in writing, Charteree reserves the right to apply the following cancellation charges:

  • In the event of a cancellation made up to 45 days prior to the start date of the charter period Charteree charges 50% of the Charter Fee.
  • In the event of a cancellation made within 45 days prior to the start of the charter period Charteree charges 100% of the Charter Fee.
  • In the event of a cancellation made after check-in Charteree retains 100% of the Charter Fee and charges to the Client all expenses incurred as a result of the cancellation.

If the Client is able to find a new rental client for the same period of the charter and under the same terms and conditions, Charteree reserves the right to charge for any administrative and manipulative costs incurred by the change.

In the event that the Client has to cancel the reservation due to objective reasons (death in the family or serious illness), Charteree is not liable to return the paid amount, but if the Client rents the vessel in the same period Charteree will organize charter on other adequate vessel for the next appropriate date or for the next season, i.e. Charteree will issue a credit note that can be used in the agreed period.

The credit note is calculated taking into account the difference between the cancelled reservation and the reservation later confirmed for the same vessel and in the same period. Charteree is not liable for damages in the event of reservation changes or cancellation due to situations such as war, riot, strikes, terrorist activity, exceptional sanitary conditions, natural disasters, interventions of local authorities, etc.)

Once we receive your request, we will confirm the availability of the boat, as well as check for alternative ones. To ensure your experience is the best it can be, we may contact you to discuss your request in detail. Let us do the research for you – free of charge.

We understand that there is an uncertainty regarding travel plans this year. For that reason we are offering free reschedule of the charter.

In case of travel restrictions or a CDC Travel Health Notice for any country to/from the charter destination will be issued and it won't be possible for charterers to reach charter destination then:

Free reschedule of the charter in the same or next season

Crewed charter

Here is the example of all obligatory costs for one of the Luxury Yacht:

LUXURY YACHT: 30,000.00 €
APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance): 30% of the charter fee – 9,000.00 €

VAT is included in all the prices.

When chartering a crewed yacht under MYBA terms or special Europe Yacht Charter terms on the fully crewed yachts, you will be required to make a deposit in advance of the charter, which is separate to the charter or booking fee.

This deposit is called the "advance provisioning allowance" or APA. The APA amount is used to cover expenses incurred during the course of the charter such as fuel, food, beverages, mooring fees, visa fees, harbour fees, park fees, taxes, and other expenses not included in the Charter Fee. In the event of cancellation of the charter the APA is refundable.

The captain of the yacht is responsible for accounting for all APA expenses during the charter, and the breakdown will be presented to you in a clear manner at the end of the charter.

If the costs incurred during the course of the charter are less than the APA deposit, then the difference will be refunded to the Charterer at the end of the charter.

If the costs incurred during the course of the charter that are over and above the APA deposit then this difference will be payable by the Charterer at the end of the charter.

For more info and offer, contact us: Luxury Yacht Charter

You can get in touch with the skipper as soon as you've completed your booking.

Our skippers are highly qualified and knowledgeable about their locality. They all speak English. The skipper is to be payed in the marina at the check in (for crewed charter, the crew is already included in the price)

Because we want to provide you with a stylish travel and unforgettable experience on board of our luxury yachts, we have taken the time to create this custom preference list, with attention to detail and a sophisticated service that is aligned to your crew personal requirements. Completion of the preference list document would let our crew know about the specific likes and dislikes you and your guests may have and also potential allergies, and it gives us the opportunity to plan and cater to your individual tastes. Please contact all members of your party before completing the preference list, as we want to ensure that their favorites are on board as well. The Preference list will be send to you approximately one month before the charter by our booking manager.

Bareboat charter

If you have no sailing experience at all, or if you do not possess an officially recognized sailing license, you are obliged to hire a skipper.

Even if you have experience in sailing but are not sure in your maneuvering skills, it is strongly recommended to hire a professional skipper for at least several days, in order to make your cruise more relaxing. You can also benefit from the skippers' local knowledge – they are well acquainted with the Adriatic region and will be able to suggest you the most interesting places for swimming and fun, as well as numerous restaurants.

We can reserve the skipper for you.

In the event of a bareboat charter (without our skipper) the client skipper must be in possession of a certificate of competence in order to charter a boat. It is also a legal requirement for one member of the crew to be qualified for the operation with the VHF station (possessing the VHF license).

If you are not sure about the validity of your certificate, please check if it is listed here.

Licenses and certificates corresponding to the Croatian program and containing the verification of the state are accepted by the Croatian and Greek authorities. The VHF license is obligatory, as well.

Most of the RYA licenses are accepted (www.rya.org.uk) for sailing in Croatian and Greek territorial waters.

If you are not sure about the validity of your certificate, please check if it is listed here.

In case you possess any kind of a sailing license please be sure to send it to us via email, so that we can check its validity with the charter agency as well as the Croatian or Greek authorities before chartering a vessel.

A license issued for navigating motor boats can be accepted valid if it is clearly indicated that it can be used for navigating sailing boats as well. By all means send us a copy via email, so that we can check its validity with local authorities.

If it is not indicated on a license that it is accepted for sailing boats, it can be upgraded. E.g. licenses issued in Italy can be used either for sailing boats only, or for motor boats only, or for both vessel types.

In order to hire a yacht in Croatia, Greece or Italy, the person navigating the boat has to be qualified for operating a vessel or a yacht, and must possess a necessary license, corresponding to Croatian, Greek or Italian rules and regulations.

The certificate can be obtained in client's mother country, in which case the client's picture, official stamp and verification of the state must be included on it. The other possibility is to take an exam in one of the Croatian, Greek or Italian port authorities – the certificate is obtained the same day. In case you opt for this, We will gladly help you in organizing the exam and will let you know all the necessary details on time (i.e. the price of the exam as well as the exact time when and the place where it takes place).

Skipper's services are paid separately from the charter fee. The guests are obliged to pay them (also those of a hostess or a cook) as well as food and drink for the skipper or the other crew members.

Mega-yachts and sailing boats exceeding certain length are chartered exclusively with the crew (provided by the vessel owner), in which case the crew expenses are included in the charter fee.

In most cases the skipper sleeps in the salon area or in the small cabin in front of the hull. However, it is strongly recommended to charter a bigger boat and provide the skipper with his own cabin. Since he is in charge of the day-to-day running of the yacht, as well as the security of people on board, he should be well-rested – apart from that, the guests will have more comfort and a free salon area to hang out.

Every vessel is registered for a certain number of people (the law does not allow this number to be exceeded) – if this number does not include a berth in the salon area, the skipper is required to have his own cabin.

Here is the example of all obligatory and optional costs for one of the sailing yachts and catamarans:

  • SAILING YACHT / CATAMARAN / MOTOR BOATS:3,735.00 €
  • Standard charter pack: 170.00 € (OBLIGATORY)
  • Skipper: 1,050.00 € (OPTIONAL)
  • Hostess: 910.00 € (OPTIONAL)

And here are some estimates expenses:

Fuel est.: 250 – 350 €
Mooring fees est.: 200 – 400 € Presuming that most of the nights will be on the anchor or mooring buoy. Some people will go entire week with only 150 € spent on mooring fees. It also depends on the weather. It is safer to be in marina if there is a storm.
Food: 450 €+ (provisions for boat + skipper) Please note that this does not include dinners in restaurants. Meals in restaurants are 15 € for pizza and soft drinks, while full meals are 25-35 € per person.

VAT is included in all the prices.

The vessels are returned to the base on Friday afternoon/evening with an overnight on board till Saturday morning between 8am and 9am, when the check-out procedure is done. At that time the guests should leave the boat, so that it can be cleaned and prepared for new guests.

The vessel can also be returned to the base on Saturday, but make sure it is before 8am, in order for guests to have enough time to fill the tank before leaving the vessel.

If you are arriving before the time determined for taking over the vessel (check-in is usually done at around 5pm), let us know the approximate time of your arrival and we will try to arrange with the charter agency to have the vessel delivered to you earlier, which is possible if it is not too crowded in the marina at that time.

In case you are arriving on Friday or earlier and need some help in finding suitable accommodation, please feel free to contact us.

Similarly to renting a car, chartering a boat requires a security deposit. The deposit, fully refundable after check-out, covers you and your fellow passengers against accidental damage and ensures that contractual obligations are met. The security deposit varies in value depending on the model and brand of the boat. It will be returned to you after the boat has been inspected and is deemed undamaged.

You can get in touch with the skipper as soon as you've completed your booking.

Our skippers are highly qualified and knowledgeable about their locality. They all speak English. The skipper is to be payed in the marina at the check in (for crewed charter, the crew is already included in the price)

A Transit Log is a variable payment, which can include the following: bed linen, cleaning, on-board Internet connection, tourist tax and base marina fees. The details of the Transit Log differ depending on the boat, location and charter partner. Once you choose your boat, our team will be able to outline the specifics of the Transit Log associated with your booking.

What our travelers say

Sailing in Croatia

Everything was as advertised with no nasty surprises. The catamaran was a new (2024) 46ft, 4-berth boat and provided a fantastic base for the 7 of us. Check-in and check-out was seem less and we were able to visit some wonderful and beautiful locations that all felt a lot more authentic compared to many other mainland Mediterranean locations. Finally and last but not least, our 28 year 6ft 8” captain Marijo was a fantastic host who was extremely accommodating and helpful.

Crystal clear waters

We had a wonderful week with Marijo on the boat. We went from one beautiful bay to the next with crystal clear waters, and always got the best spots with our skipper. Great SUP cruises, wonderful card games, and if Marijo wasn’t on the boat, it was because he was being helpful tying other boats to the bay!

Paula M

Best Sporades crew

We had a fantastic cruising experience in the Sporades. Apostolos was an amazing skipper, took us to excellent spots, shared tons of recommendations, took care of restaurant reservations and basically everything we needed. Christina was an awesome hostess, her cuisine was soooo delicious, we were amazed with her creation in a floating kitchen :) Highly recommended, we'll be back for sure! Thank you team :)

Perfect trip in Ionian Islands (Greece)

We had a wonderful time in Greece. One week of sailing with two families. The trip planning with Europe Yachts Charter was easy - as usual. We have been using Mario and the team for many years - a great partnership which we have been enjoying in booking charters around the world. The trip itself was amazing. The cat (Lagoon 50) was in great shape. Lots of great tools aboard - more so than we have been used to (incl. water ski, tubing, etc. - next to SUPs and kayak)

Croatia Sailing

Our family of 12 chartered a boat through Mario of Europe Yachts Charter for the third year. We have chartered through other companies… but our experience with Mario is definitely the best. He is so helpful from the beginning to the end. I highly recommend Europe Yachts Charter and especially Mario. Croatia is by far our favorite place to sail… such a charming country.

Great Spring trip in Greece!

Everything was great. The boat was a great boat Lagoon 50 and in good shape. It was very well equipped and comfortable for our group. The dock hands were most helpful and the onboarding process was easy and enjoyable, provisioning with the local Athens markets was also very easy. The islands are beautiful and the winds were not too challenging as we were early in the season. We had a great trip. Mario and Marin were very responsive and helpful in the booking process. Thank you to Mario and Marin for all your help.
